Spiritual DirectionWe walk with God on our journey through life. He shows himself in various ways: in those we live and work with and in chance encounters; in events, and in prayer. Spiritual direction is an opportunity to articulate for ourselves where God is in our lives; what his plan is for us and how we can live according to that plan. It can give clarity to major decision-making, or simply to how best to live a more focussed Christian life. Spiritual Direction is an opportunity to reflect on our life experience, with the help of a companion, in order to discern the reality of God in our lives. It can give clarity to major decision-making or simply help us to find meaning as we attempt to move towards God-given wholeness and the fulfilment of our potential. Interviews, or conversations, generally take place once a month for up to an hour, but can be more or less frequent. The “director” is not so much a teacher or instructor, but more of a guide or companion. The Irish word “Anamchara” (soul-friend) captures the role perfectly. The director is travelling on the same road or pilgrimage as the one being directed, but through life experience, prayer-life and training, has learned to read the signposts on the way and helps identify them. A room in Cherith is specifically reserved for this purpose
